Fighting Fake News
In his speech Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the steps Facebook is taking to combat fake news. Some of the steps that they have taken is that now they are verifying anyone who is running massive political ads with a government id. They have also decided to make ads more transparent by introducing an Ad Transparency Tool (currently launched in Canada). In order to combat fake news they are bringing more and more fact checking partners on Facebook.
Mark also pointed out the steps Facebook is taking to ensure data privacy specially after the incident regarding Cambridge Analytica. One of the steps they have taken is that they are restricting the access of data by developers. They have made massive investment in reviewing apps that might already have access to large amount of data and looking for suspicious activities.
Clear History Feature
Facebook is also planning to launch a clear history feature which will allow the users to delete their history of actions taken by users. Note that in Congress Mark Zuckerberg was grilled on the fact that Facebook stores and tracks all the information regarding its users without the users explicitly opting-in for such tracking.
Dating on Facebook
Facebook is announced that they will soon introduce a dating feature on the Facebook App thereby allowing its users to set up a dating profile and get matches. He assured the feature is designed with privacy as the top concern and the users activity on the dating portion of the app will not be displayed to any of their friends on Facebook
Video Chat On Instagram
Facebook announced that they are introducing video chat on Instagram. Users will be able to video chat either one-on-one or in groups with other people. They will be able to minimize the video while they are using Instagram
Group Video Calling on Whatsapp
One of the most appreciated features that Facebook announced in this F8 is that they are introducing Group Video Calling on Whatsapp. Now the users will be able to video call multiple people at once using whatsapp. This would be specially useful for businesses as well and now they can have on the fly meetings directly on whatsapp.
Shipping Oculus Go
Mark also announced that they are shipping Oculus Go at a price of $199. They also introduced Oculus Venue which will allow the users to experience live social events in VR like concerts, comedy nights and movie screenings. This will allow users to watch events like soccer live with their friends in VR.
Interactive 3D Posts
Facebook is also introducing interactive 3D posts, which users can bring and share 3d photos on their timeline just with a single tap.
